Paula Meale

Paula is a Research Nurse at University College London, specialising in surgical outcomes for patients undergoing high-risk operations. Amongst other projects, Paula is currently the trial co-ordinator for a multicentre, National Institute of Health Research, Research for Patient Benefit study. The study is a randomised controlled trial of the utility of cardiopulmonary exercise (CPX) testing for preoperative risk stratification to guide perioperative care and thereby reduce postoperative morbidity.

Paula studied Adult Nursing at the Royal Free School of Nursing & University of North London. Her clinical background included vascular, liver & breast surgery; haematology oncology; surgical high dependency and most recently Intensive Care Nursing at University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London. Paula has an interest in enhanced surgical treatment & recovery programmes, having designed, developed & launched such protocols in NHS Trusts. In 2007, Paula ran the Caudwell Xtreme Everest Kathmandu Laboratory. Paula is currently studying for her MSc at Middlesex University, London.
