Snowed in at the Margherita Hut
Team A is now in the full swing of research at the Margherita Hut. Today was our second day of CPEX which has been a little frustrating as the equipment seems to be suffering from altitude sickness! However, after another long day and early start we have managed to get all CPEX studies completed on core subjects. Other experiments going on today included Jim Milledge?s pulmonary artery pressure study, muscle NIRS, early morning urine studies and trans-cranial Doppler studies.
The weather has closed in with bellowing snow storms continuing throughout the day. Due to our lack of opportunity to leave the hut and explore the surrounding mountains, we have found many ways to keep ourselves entertained when there is a rare slow moment. From extremely complicated card games (courtesy of Zeyn Mohammed) to watching poor quality movies, there isn?t time to be bored here!
Tomorrow we continue the research with the core subjects undergoing several physiology tests and we commence the oxygen extraction study in which five subjects have bravely volunteered to have central and arterial lines inserted and then carryout a CPEX test. It promises to be an exciting day! Post a comment on this article... Open message form
